The Process
Luke Weiser Jewellery started out as Luke Weiser Custom Rods, and while we will still make you that stunning one of a kind flyrod we are more about jewellery these days.
We start out making a piece by the gem itself, the shape and the type of gem. Some gems are more prone to chipping and or are softer and therefore not great choices for rings. Emeralds in fact are a harder gemstone but are very prone to chipping, so in a ring they need a little more TLC than a sapphire would. If the client really wants that emerald ring, and they are beautiful, I would recommend a bezel setting to wrap most of the edges in gold to protect them.
Once the type of gem is decided and the design around its limitations are addressed the rest of the design is created and submitted to the client for approval.
After the client gives the approval the materials are acquired and the piece is started. I start with pure gold and alloy it to the chosen karat value, after the ingot is poured and cooled milling begins. Each piece is hand crafted and very rarely will I have a piece cast. The metals are milled, shaped and soldered into the piece of jewellery desired. after the piece is together there is a bunch of filing, sanding and polishing still to do. The final stage of the piece is to set the gem and any accent gems that are desired.
The pieces that you see on the website are my designs and I hope you love them as much as I do.
